THE PROJECT OF THE ADAPTABLE BOX. An enclosed space open to adopt any desired program at any given moment, as far as it fits within the determined boundaries.
A self-supporting three storey high permanent structure frames a space of 200×60 m, thereby refering to the dimensions of surrounding box-like warehouses and commercial buildings. However, rather than simply copying this typlogy, it is transformed into a new type. This type can change in its structure, time and in use.
The proposal offers a spatial model suitable to cope with the exceptional contitions of the site, while creating a solution for adopting the requested program of housing as well as other functions. What at first sight may seem like a forceful intervention is in fact a highly pragmatic and contextual gesture.
